Film Photography

My grandpa gave me a old Yashica FX-2 about 10 years ago before he passed away. It was around then that my interest in photography really took off. I had played with the camera often but never really explored film. I was young and film was just to expensive for me to learn with. Now that I am older and know how to work a camera, I am taking it back out and experimenting with film more.

Late last year I went on a photo walk with other photographers in downtown Indianapolis. It was the first time in a long time I had the camera out and using up a whole roll of film. I wasn't even sure it was good film anymore. The film had been sitting in a box for 10 years but I figured I would just use it and hope for the best.

I learned how to take photos of the negatives with my dslr and using photoshop, developing them. I know have a totally new hobby. Next, I want to try to develop my own film.

The past few days I have been looking into getting am older used medium format camera and experimenting with 120 and 220 film.

Below are the photos from the photo walk downtown Indianapolis.

Another Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway

A little sunburn, new memories, and some great photos: just a small list of things I left IMS with yesterday. Of all the years I have been going to the Speedway, I had never been to turn three or seen the infield stands. I decided to explore more of the track I love and found new spots to see the cars. These are a few of the photos I took yesterday.

I went yesterday with the goals to take photos of more than just the cars. I wanted to capture the drivers and other things going on at the track.

Excited for practice for the Indy 500!

My First Fashion Magazine Publication!

On New Years day, like most people, I sat down and wrote out a goals list for 2018. It had the usual (and never accomplished) exercise goals and the “I’m gonna eat healthier” stuff we all fail at during week two. Mine also had items for my photography. I had ever written down goals for my art and decided I was never going to advance unless I did.

A few of my goals included, being published in a fashion magazine, shooting more fashion work, networking, putting myself out there more and also to submit to Pattern, a magazine based here in Indianapolis.

Slight back story, last year I had a model, Mahogani (@iammahoganij on Instagram. You should totally check her out there!) contact me on Instagram and she wanted to do a shoot. We met for our first shoot had a great time and got some great photos! (It was also super cold that day.) A few months later she contacted me again and we wanted to do another shoot.

The shoot went great and we got some awesome shots again! This time, they were going to be submitted. A few weeks later I was told they would be published in the March 2018 Issue of Ellements magazine! A fashion magazine based in New York! (http://www.ellementsmagazine.com)

It was so exciting. It was only February and I had checked off one of my goals!

Onto the next goals on my list!

Indycar

The first time I went to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, I knew it was going to be a place I would visit for the rest of my life. The cars, history, tradition and excitement are so special, you can't experience it anywhere else.

As a kid, I remember going online and looking up the photographs of past races. I loved seeing the old cars and the way the track has changed over the years.

I am so excited for the month of May this year. I try to go as much as I can to take photographs and perfect my craft. I look up to the Motor Speedway photographers and hope to one day work beside them, capturing the history. I want to take the photographs that the next generations of race fans can look at, just like I used to as a little kid.
